SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.

EXCURSION TRIP TO WANGANUI.

The Waitara Methodist Sunday school anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, the officiating minister being the Rev. J. M. Blight, Inglewood. Scriptures were read by junior members of the church, and at all services the children sang under the conductorship of Mr. Metcalf. At the afternoon service vocal solos were contributed by Joy Cuming and Myra Crow and a duet by Mary Smaill and Edna Blanchard. A recitation was given by Tui Miles. An interesting part of the service was the distribution of prizes. In the evening the Misses Wakely sang a duet, and an orchestra comprising Miss Thelma Cuming (organ), Mrs. Locke, Mr, C. King (violins) and Mr. D. Locke (cornet) assisted with the musical portion of the services.

Eighty passengers were booked at Waitara for the excursion train to Wanganui on Sunday. Inluded in the number were 30 tennis players from the Raukura Club, who had arranged to play a return match with Wanganui friends. Messrs. W. R. Fuller, B. Whitmore and R. Kirby, who have been engaged at Messrs, Borthwick and Sons’ Waingawa works at Masterton in connection with the slaughtering of meat for a chilled beef shipment, returned to Waitara on Friday.
