BOTH FOUND UNCONSCIOUS. ‘ ACCIDENT AT MANGATOKI. Two cyclists were found unconscious on Hastings Road, Mangatoki, late on Sunday night as the result of a collision between their machines. .One youth, Haydn Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Murray, Eltham, received serious injuries, including a broken nose, a gash over the right eye and injuries to the mouth. He was attended by Dr. Saunders and removed to Mount View Hospital, where he is making favourable progress. The other rider was J. Hills, who was travelling in the opposite direction. He was badly bruised but no bones were broken. He also was taken to hospital and is making a recovery. PUKENGAHU DISTRICT NEWS. INTER-ROAD CRICKET GAME. A friendly cricket match between the Waihapa Road and the Wingrove Road teams was played at the week-end. The game, which took place on the Wingrove pitch, was won by the home team. In the first innings Wingrove made 44, C. Tonks 18, and H. Kirk 9 being the principal scorers. The total of 51 for 3 wickets was made in the second innings, the best scores being those of L. Jones 19 retired and D. Jones, 13 not out. Waihapa in the first innings made 17. In the second innings 35 runs were made for seven wickets. McGuiness 11' and G. Burgham nine were the best scorers. Bowling for Wingrove, D. Jones took five wickets cheaply in the first innings, and six in the second. Waihapa’s best bowler was Quayle, who took three wickets for 14 runs in the first innings. Several farmers in the Pukengahu district exhibited prize-winning animals at the recent A. and P. shows. Crops and pastures are growing rapidly as a result of the recent heavy rain. Mrs. Horgan is a patient in the Wellington public hospital. Mr. Eric Mulford, who was in the New Plymouth public hospital following an injury to his eye while riding, has returned home. He is still an out-patient. Miss Edna Bremer paid a brief visit to her home early this week. Miss D. Stockman has been admitted to the Stratford public hospital suffering from severe influenza. Mrs. Lindsay is visiting Mrs. Sanderson, Fraser Road'. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. E. L. Dickie, of the staff of the Stratford post office, is on annual leave. Mr. R. Knight, of the Stratford railway station staff, has been transferred to Eltham. Congratulations to the Hon. S. G. Smith on his appointment as Minister of Education were expressed by the Stratford school committee last night. Mr. Smith had been a good friend to the committee as chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, said the chairman, Mr. J. Morrison. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. Interest in the demonstration staged by Miss Lynette Stewart, featuring Max Factor’s cosmetics, has run high at Stratford during the last few days. The final demonstration at the Plaza Theatre was given last night, and Miss Stewart will be m attendance to-day at the special studio, of the Stratford Friendly Societies’ Dispensary for the purpose of giving private make-ups and advice free to women. To-day will be her last at Stratford, and her time is almost completely booked up.
