WORK AS ARCHITECT
MR. JOHN D. HEALY’S DEATH. 33 YEARS SPENT AT STRATFORD. A short but severe illness during the past week, in addition to the failing state of his health over the last 12 months, caused the death at Stratford on Saturday morning of Mr. John David Healy, architect, at the age of 66. Mr. Healy’s death was not totally unexpected but it came as a shock to his family and the large number of friends and acquaintances he has made during his 33 years’ residence at- Stratford. He was born and educated at New Plymouth, where he also learned his trade as a builder. It was in that capacity that he came to Stratford in 1901, but several years later he qualified as. an architect and has followed that profession ever since. Mr. Healy was a borough councillor for several years and one of the chief movers In the formation of the Stratford A. and P. Association. He has designed many of the fine modern buildings that line each side of Broadway, the municipal building being a notable example of his work. Of his more recent works the abattoir building for the borough council and the Toko factory for the Stratford Dairy Company are outstanding. He has been architect to the Stratford Racing Club, Stratford Hospital Board and several dairy companies. Mrs. Healy died a year ago and since then Mr. Healy’s health has failed rapidly. He leaves three sons, Messrs. Carlton, Ronald and Albert Healy, and one daughter, Mrs. M. W. Beattie, all of Stratford. There is a brother, Mr. Michael Healy, at New Plymouth.
