PUBLICATION BAN

PROFICIENCY PASS LIST.

ACTION TAKEN IN CANTERBURY.

By Telegraph—Press Association.' Christchurch, Nov. . 23,

After consideration of a memorandum from the senior inspector Mr. A. McNeil, the Canterbury Education Board decided that in future the results of pro-, ficiency examinations will not be published. . . " “There is some satisfaction, doubtless, to the successful candidates in the fact that all their friends will be informed of their success,” said the Inspector, “but to the personal disappointment of those who fail is added the humiliation that their failure, by implication of the omission of their names, is also published to their friends. This is especially" the case in schools where there is a small number of candidates. Proficiency, differs from all other public examinations in that it is practically compulsory. Is it fair at this stage of their education thus publicly to classify all school children?” " .

Notice has been given to rescind... the motion. • •
