WEDDING THIS WEEK
DUKE OF KENT AND MARINA.
GUESTS BEGINNING TO ARRIVE.
(British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5 p.m. Rugby, Nov. 23. The Lord Mayor of London, sheriffs and aidermen drove to Buckingham Palace to-day, followed by members of the City Corporation to present formally the city’s wedding gift of plate and jewellery to the Duke of Kent and Princess Marina. Other deputations bearing presents included Mr. Montagu Norman as governor of the Bank of England, were also, received by the Duke and the Princess.
King Haakon, of Norway, who is to attend next week’s wedding, arrived at , North Shields to-day. The King and Queen of Sweden are due on Monday. On the evening of that day King George and Queen Mary are giving a State banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of the King and Queen of Denmark, who are also to be their guests for the wedding. A large crowd gathered outside Buckingham Palace and cheered Princess Marina and the Duke of Kent when they drove with the King and Queen to St. James’ Palace on Thursday to view their > wedding presents. These make a woni derful display and include gifts from ! many countries. The Navy throughout the Empire is ' making a gift to the Duke of Kent of a j rare antique silver tea service of eight ( pieces of the Queen Anne and Georgian periods, together with an oak chest. The donors include men in the Australian and New Zealand navies.
