Mr. D. T. McPherson, London, , who has been visiting New Plymouth, left yesterday for Wanganui.

Mr. P. E. Trevella, of the staff of the New Plymouth branch of the Union Steam Ship Company, has received notification of his transfer to Invercargill. He will leave New Plymouth early in December.

The Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Education, is unable to return to New Plymouth this week-end owing to pressure of public business. He expects to be at home next week-end.

The Hon. Philip Collier, Premier of Western Australia, who is making a visit to the Dominion for health reasons, will arrive at New Plymouth by car from Waitomo Caves on Monday. He will stay at the Criterion Hotel and will leave again for Wellington on Wednesday.

Lieutenant-Colonel J. V. R. Jackson, commanding the First Battalion the Buffs, which is stationed at Maymyo, Burma, arrived at Auckland from Sydney this week. He will leave for England at the end of this month.

Mr. John Fuller, the proprietor of St. James’ Theatre, Sydney, passed through Auckland recently en route to California. It is understood that his visit is in connection with the reported illness of his daughter, who is well known in New Zealand.

Appreciative reference was made by members of the executive of the North Taranaki Fields Competitions. Committee to the work of the chairman, Mr.' J. M. Smith, who Is shortly to leave the district, and a resolution was passed placing on record appreciation of the work done by him in fostering and carrying out the competitions on behalf of the committee in North Taranaki. Best wishes were also extended to Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Mr. G. McLeod, manager of the Christchurch branch of the Union Bank of Australia since 1931, will shortly retire from his position. Mr. McLeod joined the bank at Dunedin in 1892, and after 10 years was appointed manager at Hamilton. Before going to Christchurch he was manager at Wanganui. Mr. McLeod comes of a banking family, one brother, Mr. J. A. McLeod, having retired from the position of manager of the Bank of Australasia at Wellington last year, and another brother, Mr. J.'McLeod, holding the position of manager of the Bank of Australasia at Wanganui. The successor to Mr. McLeod at Christchurch is Mr. J. M. Saunders, who is at present manage! of the Palmerston North branch.
