MEAT EXPORT TRADE
FIGURES FOR OCTOBER INCREASED BEEF SHIPMENTS. The October shipments to Great Britain of prime beef in quarters totalled 43,720, compared with 3602 quarters during October, 1933, according to the returns of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. Last year at this period beef was being held in store pending the removal of the restriction, on export to Great Britain at the end of the month. This is also reflected in the stocks in hand in the Dominion at October 31 of this year, which totalled 21,533 quarters, against 145,189 quarters at the same date a year ago. . Shipments of mutton to Great Britain In October totalled 90,154 carcases, compared with 56,113 carcases in Octotter, 1933. The lamb shipments were 92,246 carcases and 76,725 carcases respectively. There was a slight decline in the shipments of pork from 40,575 carcases in October, 1933, to 39,386 carcases last month.. No bags of boneless beef were shipped, while during the same month a year ago the total was 17,339 bags. South Island:—Beef, - (-); wethers, - (-); ewes, 13 (-); lamb, - (1); porkers 953 (554); baconers, 272 (—); boneleJ beef, - (338); sundries, 6882 (9288).. The total amount of meat in store ,in New Zealand at the end of October, with that in hand at October 31, 1933, in parentheses,- was as follows:—Beef (quarters), 21,533 (145,189); wethers (carcases), 9017 (6272); ewes (carcases), 2343 (7132); lambs (carcases), 28,834 (62,863), porkers (carcases), 23,806 (11,559); baconers (carcases), 10,040 (8878); boneless beef (freight carcases), 178,242 (22 693); sundries (freight carcases), 71,135 (121,361).
