CHILDREN’S CALVES

OEO-OPUNAKE-AWATUNA DISTRICT JUDGING OF THE COMPETITION. The judging of childrens calves in the South Taranaki school competitions was continued yesterday when the Oeo, Pihama, Opunake, Mangahume and Awatuna schools were visited. The judges were Messrs. W. R. Butler (type and condition) and R. Syme (chart). There was a strong, even class at Pihama, while the entries at Mangahume and Awatuna were also of a fair standard, showing evidence of careful rearing and being brought out in a creditable condition. The entries at Awatuna were greater in number than in previous years and there was a big attendance of parents to witness the judging. At the conclusion the judges and parents were entertained at afternoon tea by the newly-formed boys and girls’ club, of which Ramsay Boyd is president and Dora Niccols secretary. Refreshments were also provided at Pihama and Mangahume. The awards were:— OEO. Jersey-Ayrshire Class. Condition. Chart. Total.
