Oeo is becoming quite a cricket centre, a number of Otakeho players having joined the Oeo club. A. friendly match was played between Oeo and Otakeho factory hands and Skeet Road. Tire monthly meeting of the Otakeho Girl Guide committee was held on Wednesday, Mrs. Nichols presiding. Mrs. Morrison, district commissioner, paying a tribute to Miss Mackay’s work and the discipline of the girls under her charge, Mrs. Nichols congratulated the company on the success at the recent Patea rally, Otakeho gaining a first, second and third place at the celebrations. A vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Mackay for their assistance was passed. The Otakeho parish fair is to be held shortly. A party was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mr. . and Mrs. Walter Taylor, old settlers of Oeo, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their- daughter, Miss Maggie Taylor. The evening was spent in dancing and cards, the music being played by Messrs. C. Taylor, W. Taylor and A. Fowler. A spot waltz was won by Miss M. Taylor and Mr. Theo Evans. The dance room was decorated with a floral horse shoe. Misses L. and B. Erhern gave an exhibition clog dance. Supper was served by Mrs. W. Taylor, assisted by Mrs. Duff, Mr. Jones proposed the health of Miss Taylor and Miss Joyce Erhern also spoke. Mr. Taylor replied. Mrs. Duff, Hastings, and Mr. Freeth, Hukanui, are the guests of Mrs. Taylor. Mrs. Lewis Evans is an inmate of the Hawera hospital.
Mr. W. Taylor had a record schnapper catch recently, catching 23 in five days. He also landed a large stingaree.
