DEATH OF GASPARRI
CARDINAL OF THE HOLY SEE.
DIPLOMATIST AND CHURCHMAN.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright, Rome, Nov. 18. The death has occurred of Cardinal Pietro Gasparri, aged 82. Cardinal Gasparri, an Italian Holy See diplomatist, entered the priesthood in 1877 and after being a professor of canonic law in Paris was delegate to Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. After undertaking ecclesiastic and. diplomatic missions he became a cardinal in 1907. He was Secretary of State to Benedict XV. and Pius XI. and negotiated and signed the Lateran Treaty in 1929.
