MORE SHIPS ORDERED
WAY OF MEETING COMPETITION. FIGURES OF UNITED KINGDOM. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 12.11 a.m. London, Nov. 19. Shipowners, faced with the most terrific competition in maritime history, are ordering more new ships for Empire routes than ever, says the Daily Express. Forty-two passenger and cargo ships modelled on the latest designs are on the stocks in British yards. Orders for 12 more are likely to be placed before March. Orders placed in the past year mean £10,000,000 for British shipbuilders and work for 50,000 artisans. The facts mean that shipowners have concluded this is the only method of fighting further inroads by foreign-owned vessels.
