SAMURAI LOYALTY
SUICIDE WITH OWN SWORD.
REPARATION FOR SLIGHT ERROR.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright
Tokio, Nov. 18.
Maintaining the traditional Saniurai code of loyalty and responsibility, Police Inspector Jubei Londa committed suicide with his own sword because he guided the Emperor down a wrong street while taking part in a procession through the city. The blunder is also possibly the cause of the resignation of the Home Minister, the local governor and others. It is recalled that a similar incident occurred irf the reign of Emperor Meiji, whose train was delayed for an hour on the way to manoeuvres at Kyushu, whereupon the stationmaster committed suicide. Recently a soldier who lost his bayonet took his life, as all weapons are the Emperor’s property.
