.Sir Abe Bailey, the South African mine owner, has agreed to back the greatest motor-car race in history on the occasion of the Johannesburg jubilee in 1936, says the Dispatch. The course will be from Algiers to Johannesburg, a distance of 8139 miles. The winner will receive £10,009.
Sir Abe Bailey said he had rejected the request to support an air race similar to the Melbourne centenary race.
