INGLEWOOD SWIMMING CLUB.

CHILDREN’S RACES CONDUCTED.

The Inglewood Swimming Club held a successful opening splash for children on Thursday, when several races were held. The club provided small trophies for the winners and was able to present to the new school improvement fund a small sum.

The results df the competitions were: Diving: E. Hodges. Width of baths: B. Grant 1, K. Ford 2. Girls’ 25 yards: E. Barrack 1, B. Crossan 2.

Boys’ 50 yards: A. Rowe 1, B. Harris Boys’ 25 yards: E. Maetzig 1, L. James

Girls’ 25 yards: B. Crossan 1, L. James 2. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gibbs, were present during the afternoon; At the conclusion of the events the trophies were presented to the winners by the senior vice-president, Mr. E. Crossman. The rain which fell at Inglewood at the week-end was welcomed by both gardeners and farmers. On Sunday morning .22 inches was recorded and 1.22 inches on Monday morning.

The pig club recently formed at Inglewood was soon active. Last Tuesday a working bee was held, when a sty after the Cheltenham type, was erected and the necessary fencing done. On Wednesday several members of the club visited the Egmont show, where a recorded pedigree Tainworth maiden sow was purchased. D. Sutherland, who won the title of champion of champions in Taranaki golf, is not yet in his twenties. He commenced playing golf about four years ago, to rise rapidly on the Inglewood Golf Club’s ladder, until in 1933 he was the runnerup in the senior championship. This season by playing superb golf he defeated Mr. S. Lovell, for many years champion of the club, in the championship. Sutherland is the first Inglewood player to be champion of champions, although past players have won the Taranaki championship.
