WOMEN’S DIVISION

Maiau: The Matau branch held its monthly meeting last week. Mrs. Ayers presided over a good attendance. The president stated that she had attended an executive meeting at Stratford and tnat several members of the Matau branch had attended the Stratford branch’s birthday party. Arrangements for the annual Christmas evening for children were discussed and it was decided to hold it at “break-up” time. Final plans will be made at the next meeting. An entertaining- “trades” competition was won by Mrs. W. McCoard. The prize for this was given by Miss J. Coulter. Hunter Road: At a meeting of the branch the president, Mrs. W. E. Carter, presided over a fair attendance. A letter of thanks was read from the disabled soldiers for the selling of goods. Mrs. Carter gave a short talk on business dealt with at the last executive meeting at Hawera. A demonstration on seagrass stool making was given by Miss A. Carter. A competition for the best decorated jar of flowers was won by Mrs. C. Startup with Mrs. McLaren second. Afternoon tea was served by the Misses Startup.

Kapuni: At the meeting last Wednesday Mrs. Paterson presided over a fair attendance. A competition was won by Mrs. Barriball. Owing to December and January being busy months the next meeting will be February. It was decided to send £2 to the community chest.

Egmont Village: The Egmont Village branch held a successful social recently. There was a record attendance from New Plymouth, Fitzroy, Kent Road, Hillsborough, Inglewood and Mangamahoe. The euchre tournament was conducted by Mesdames Meuli and G. Marsh. Misses M. Olson and J. Bishop won the women’s prizes. Mr. Cyril Hurlston won the men’s first prize with Mrs. Dryden second. Music was played by the Royal Maori String Band with extras by Miss Jean Montori. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. Kemp and Miss G. Flay.

Manaia: The monthly' meeting of the Manaia branch was held last week, Mrs. Paterson presiding. Most of the afternoon was spent. discussing business matters. A competition for a fowl was won by Mr. Cryer and that for a doll by Mr. S. Clarke. It was decided not to hold a meeting in December.. Another needy case had been dealt with during the month, it was reported. A presentation was made to Mrs. D. Readon, a member of the branch who has left the district. Members proposed to hold a picnic, arrangements to be. made at a later date. It was decided to help disabled soldiers by sending for a supply of their goods for sale. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Walters and Paterson.
