Mr. C. S. Rennell, secretary to the New Plymouth Harbour Board, left for Wellington yesterday on a business visit.
Mr. C. H. Burgess, New Plymouth, who has been indisposed during the past few weeks is now recovering. He is staying at his Urenui residence at present, and is feeling the benefit of the change of air and scene.
Sir Donald Mann, pioneer Canadian railroad builder and financier, died at Toronto, Canada, on Sunday at the age of 81 years, states a cable. He suffered a stroke on Saturday night.
Captain E. R. Drummond succeeds Rear-Admiral Burges Watson, Commodore of the New Zealand Station, on April 24, says a London cable.
Sir Arnold Theiler, formerly Director of Veterinary Research to the South African Government, who, with Lady Theiler, has been touring the Dominion, left Auckland for Sydney by the Wanganella. The Hon. R. Master, Minister of Education, returned to Stratford from Wellington last night following the adjpurnment of Parliament. The Hon. J. McLeod, M.L.C., and Mr. S. G. Smith, member for New Plymouth, returned to New Plymouth.
Mr. R. G. May,, who replaces Mr. W. G. Cooper as chief postmaster, arrived at New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. May has been transferred from Greymbuth. Entering the service in 1900 Mr. May was shortly afterwards transferred to Thames. From Thames he returned to Taranaki and was the first cadet when, the Eltham post office was opened. Since then he has been at Wanganui and Auckland and chief postmaster at Papakura, Pukekohe, Westport and Greymouth.
The good work Mr. L. Little has done in the interests of the Sportsground Committee during his 13 years as secretary was stressed at the annual meeting of the committee last night. The chairman and members characterised it as a labour of love, pointing out that Mr. Little had consistently refused to accept any honorarium. In reply to the tributes Mr. Little said he certainly had taken great interest in the sports area as he had passed through the ground twice daily for the past 26 years, and it would be a great wrench to give up his interest in the work now that control was being handed over to the Park Committee.
