INCREASE IN STAKES
EGMONT CLUB’S. PROGRAMME. (By “Limited.”) The Egmont Racing Club has drafted an attractive programme foi' its summer meeting. An all-round increase in stakes has been allotted. The two principal events, the Egmont Cup and Tonks’ Stakes, have been increased to £250 and £2OO respectively. The Nolan Hack race has been raised to £1751, including a canteen of cutlery as trophy. _A similar trophy also goes to the winner of the Tonks’ Stakes. Owing to the lack of support experienced in six-furlong events at last year’s Egmont, Taranaki and Wanganui circuit of meetings, the programme committee has substituted seven furlongs events to take the place of the open sprint races on each day, carrying substantial prize money. The hurdle and hack races are endowed with £lOO prizes, and altogether the increased money totals £4OO. A valuable stopwatch is to be presented to the trainer of the winner of the cup.
