FRIENDLY TENNIS GAME
KAPONGA DEFEATS AUROA. A pleasant friendly tennis match was played between the Kaponga and Auroa clubs at the week-end. Glorious weather prevailed, but during the afternoon a ferocious whirlwind of brief duration was experienced. The scores were, Kaponga players being mentioned first; — Women’s singles: Mrs. J. Hammersley beat Miss E. O’Dea 6—l, Miss J. Bolger beat Miss U. West 6—o, Miss Maggie Malone beat Miss ,M. Schwieters 6—5, Miss Mary Malone beat Miss V. King 6—4, Miss P. Knight beat Miss A. Deegan 6—3, Miss D. Kirkcaldie lost to Miss M. Webby I—6. Men’s singles: J. Carey lost to A. Webby 3—6, J. Bolger beat L. West 6—3, S. Palmer beat A.- Sandford 6—l, P. O’Donoghue lost to R. Ord 5—6, V. Evans beat H. McDonald 6—2, W. A. Betts beat L. Lyndon 6—5. Women’s doubles: Mrs. Hammersley and Miss J. Bolger beat Misses E. O’Dea and U. West 6—l, Miss Mary and Maggie Malone beat Misses Schwieters and King 6—o, Misses P. Knight and D. Kirkcaldie lost to Misses A. Deegan and M. Webby 3 6. Men’s doubles: J. Carey and J. Bolger beat A. Webby and L. West 6—3, S. Palmer and P. O’Donoghue lost to A. Sanford and R. Ord 3—6, V. Evans and W. A. Betts beat McDonald and Lyndon 6-5. Combined doubles: Mrs. Hammersley and J. Carey beat Miss O’Dea and Webby 6—5, Miss Bolger and J. Bolger ,beat Miss U. West and L. West 6—4, Miss Maggie and Miss Mary Malone beat Miss V. King and R. Ord 6—2, Miss P. Knight and V. Evans beat Miss L. Deegan and McDonald 6—5, Miss D. Kirkcaldie and Betts beat Miss M. Webby and L. Lyndon 6—5. Kaponga won 19 sets (129 games) and Auroa 5 sets (87 games).
