CARDIFF TEAM DEFEATED. PUKENGAHU SCORES WELL. A Cardiff cricket eleven visited Pukengahu during the week-end and in a one-day match was beaten on the first innings by 45 runs to 29. Pukengahu won the toss and batted first. In the second Innings Pukengahu did so well that it declared at 57 for six wickets, but could not get the visitors out in time. McGuiness made 13 in Pukengahu’s first innings and Lash 29 in the second. Sexton with 9 was Cardiff s best scorer. GOOD SCORING AT NGAERE. DRAWN GAME WITH MATA TEAM.' The Skinner Road cricket team visited Stratford during the week-end, and after a close and enjoyable game was defeated.by Stratford Wanderers at Victoria Park by two runs. The Wanderers team comprised a mixture of the Stratford Thursday and Saturday clubs, and they sportingly made, the game more even by not using the stock bowlers, Barlow and Kivell. Even then it was expected that Skinner Road would be out for a small score, according to recent performances on country grounds. Thanks mainly to J. Hunter, who carried his bat for 50, the score reached 129, other useful contributions being J. Stallard 15, Hann 14 and Wedgwood 14. C. Gatton, the Wanderers captain, took five wickets for 31. After lunch Stratford began badly, two wickets falling for 18. Gatton and Hill, however, brought the score to 67, the former carrying his bat through the innings for a steady 37. The total reached 131, two runs ahead of the visitors, Collins 15 and extras 14 being the next best contributors. E. Hunter’s performance with the ball for Skinner Road was once, more the best, he taking four for 35. J. Hunter took two for 29 and Clements and J. Stallard one each. Three men were run out. NEW PITCH AT RIVERLEA, OPENING OF SEASON HELD. For some time keen interest has been displayed in the new cricket pitch laid down on Messrs. Gibson Bros.’ farm at Riverlea. Saturday was the day set aside for the opening and a very large number of residents and visitors attended. Afternoon tea was provided by the members of the Women’s Institute. The patron, Mr. A. Turner, complimented the people of Riverlea in taking up the sport. He hoped the club would receive

the success it deserved. The president, Mr. H. Harre, thanked Messrs. Gibson for their generosity in providing the pitch.
