HAWERA REMEMBERS
ARMISTICE ANNIVERSARY PARADE OF EX-SERVICEMEN HELD. W LARGE CHURCH CONGREGATIONS. Commemorating the 16th anniversary Of the signing of the Armistice, special services were held in all Hawera churches yesterday, and large congregations were the order. A parade of ex-servicemen, territorials and cadets was held at St. Mary’s Church and a special Masonic service at St. John’s Presbyterian Church.
The parade was most impressive. Comprising members of the South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association, the Hawera unit of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles Regiment, the Hawera platoon, Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment, and the Hawera Technical High School Cadets, the parade was headed by the Queen Alexandra Band, Wanganui, and the pipe band attached to the regiment. Services began at 10.45 and after the two minutes’ silence had been observed the Last Post and Reveille were sounded.
