HOLIDAY WEATHER
TRAIN EXCURSIONS BEGIN. CROWDS VISIT THE BEACHES. Tempted by the sunny weather and warm water, many hundreds of people visited the beaches of North Taranaki yesterday. The sandhills from East End to Fitzroy were sprinkled with sunbathers, while at Ngamotu there was a large number of picnic parties. The Railway Department inaugurated the Sunday summer service with an excursion train from Wanganui, which arrived at New Plymouth with 234 pas-, sengers, and one from Hawera with 278 passengers. Both trains picked up passengers en route, the number from Stratford alone .being 106. Most of the visitors stayed at the East End and Ngamotu beaches, where special facilities were provided for them. Strange to say there was not an unusually large number of visitors to North Egmont, though the conditions there were ideal. The snow, has receded some distance up the mountain. A good trip was made by Messrs. J. Weston and Mace. Climbing to the summit from the northern side, they descended to Dawson Falls and walked thence back to North Egmont.
