CRUSHED BY TRACTOR
PLOUGH STRIKES A STONE
FATAL ACCIDENT AT OAONUI. DEATH FOLLOWS IN FEW HOURS. EMPLOYEE OF AN OKATO FARMER. Fatal injuries were received by Henry Oscar Peters on Saturday afternoon when the tractor he was driving at Oaonui turned over and crushed him. He was attended by Dr. T. N. Watt, Opunake, but died one and a half hours after the accident, before he could be removed from the paddock. Mr. Peters was employed by Mr. K. A. Andrews, Okato, and it had been their custom lately to go daily to Oaonui, where the latter has a farm. On Saturday, about 5 p.m., they were using a double-furrow plough behind a tractor when the plough struck a stone, causing the tractor to turn over backwards on to Mr. Peters. He was badly crushed about the chest and abdomen. Mr. Andrews, who was alongside when the accident occurred, gave what help he coulu and summoned assistance and the doctor. Mr. Peters, who was 31 years old, Js survived by a widow and three young children. He had been in the employ of Mr Andrews for three years. An inquest will be held at New Plymouth this afternoon."
