FRIESLAND GOES WELL. NOTES ON SATURDAY'S (By “Limited.”) Continued dry weather made the plough track at the Hawera racecourse particularly fast on Saturday ’ morning, and some smart gallops were recorded. Meetings claiming the attention of Hawera trainers this month are the Waikato, Levin, Takapuna and Feilding fixtures. J. Fryer’s maiden, Misfire (Vaughan), hopping away smartly from the five furlongs post, reached the thre.: in 385., finishing in Im. 4s. A smart effort was registered by Friesland (Vaughan), who defeated Onewhetu (Feasey) by a length and a-quarter at the end of four furlongs covered in 48 4-ss. The pair went away to a fast flying start, breaking 245. for the first two furlongs. Friesland is becoming more solid and should be handy in a maiden field next time out. Aga Khan aqd Diagano, who were galloped on Friday morning, were given steady half-pace exercise. Colossal (Vaughan), going from the five furlongs, covered the first three in 3745., and, maintaining .the pace, reached the finishing post in Im. 3s. It was a good effort. Arouse and Beau Star did easy exercise work on the inside plough. . M. Conway’s maiden, Careful (Conway) went satisfactorily in a first attempt in company to finish half a length back from Gold Gleam (Simpson) in a three furlongs sprint covered in 38 2-ss. Cynical .Kid (Grindlay) was given long Steady pace work. After starting slowly over the first furlong Silk Sox (Feasey) finished his half'mile in 51 l-55., running the last two furlongs in 25 2-ss. Green Linnet (Cotter) accomplished a couple of rounds of solid pace work. Richfield (Mills) came home strongly at the end of his half mile in 50 l-ss. Ingenuity (Conway), and Exquisite (Fearn) were the only horses to use the trial grass track, sprinting a furlong down the back twice. Dewform (Vaughan) shaped well in a scamper over three furlongs compassed in 375. Copey (Cotter) went a round of the schooling hurdles, jumping well. Copey may be taken to Ellerslie for the steeplechases at Takapuna meeting. Flower Bag (Vaughan), after going a full round at steeplechase pace, ran the last seven furlongs of a second circuit in Im. 36 4-ss. Mr. Tb Lupton, owner of Flower Bag, was present to see his horse worked. As he pulled up sound, Flower Bag may go to Ellerslie for the Takapuna meeting. Green Linnet is under orders for Australia, J. Fryer- having cabled for her to be shipped across. Fryer has disposed of his Hunting Song— colt Rollovant to an Australian purchaser.
