VISITORS TO WAITARA

EXCURSIONISTS FROM THE SOUTH. TENNIS, BOWLING AND SWIMMING. About 80 passengers arrived at Waitara about 11.30 o’clock yesterday morning from Wanganui and other towns on the railway line. Included among the visitors were a tennis team from Wanganui and five rinks of bowlers from the Park (Hawera) club. One rink was also present from the Urenui club. A tennis match played against the Raukura Club at Manukorihi pa resulted in a win for the visitors by 95- games to 79and 10 sets to six. Women's doubles: Mrs. Manu and Mrs. Fookes defeated Miss Tepatu and MisS Bailey 6—5, Mrs. Tito and Miss Richmond lost to Miss Arms and Miss Wallace 4—6, Miss White and Miss Puhi defeated Mrs. Walden and Miss Tepatu 6—5. Combined doubles: Mrs. M. White and C. Puke lost to Miss Tepatu and W. Takarangi 2—6, Mrs. Fookes and M. Tito defeated Miss Bailey and P. Ehia 6 5, Mrs. K. Tito and J. Bailey lost to Miss Bailey and H. Parnell 3—6, Miss White and H. Graham lost to Mrs. Walden and Takarangi 2—6, Miss Richmond and T. Watson lost to Miss Arms and Torstonson 3—6, Miss Puhi and Tamiti defeated Miss Bailey and Takarangi 6—4. The Waitara beach was well patronised in the afternoon. Visitors who came up by the excursion train spoke well of the improvements made during the year. The hard tennis courts were in demand and the Waitara Municipal Band under Mr. Murfitt rendered a programme which gave general satisfaction. There were many swimmers in the sea.
