THREE CRIMINAL CASES MR. JUSTICE SMITH TO PRESIDE. EIGHT HEARINGS BEFORE JURY.

A fairly light calendar of cases is set down for hearing at the spring .sessions ' of the Supreme Court to be held at New Plymouth commencing on Monday. There are three criminal cases for trial and one prisoner to be sentenced. In the civil list five cases are for trial before the judge and a jury of 12 and five are to be heard by ' the judge alone. Mr. Justice Smith is to preside over the sitting. ■ • - -- ■ - Divorce cases number six and there are three motions to make absolute decrees nisi. There is one motion for a discharge from bankruptcy and'43 for the release of assignees in estates. Miscellaneous matters include four originating summonses, one petition, for winding-up by the court, and 45 mortgagors' relief applications. There, is one appeal to ba heard, Thomas William James appealing against the decision in his case against! Margaret M. O’Sullivan. The list is:—
