The Australian championship golf semi-finals were played in a brisk southerly, wind. Apperly revealed all his oldtime form to defeat Hattersley, while in the other, amateur match McKay was too steady for his opponent. Showing better ability to cope with the windy conditions, Kelly defeated the professional titleholder and Bolger putted soundly to defeat Petterson. Results are:— ' Amateur. Apperly beat Hattersley, 3 and 2. McKay beat Hughes, 4 and 3. Professional. Kelly beat Richardson, 1 up. Bolger beat Petterson, 4 and 2. REMARKABLE SCORING. SARAZEN HEATS RECORD BY FOUR By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 17. Gene Sarazen, the American champion, playing on the difficult Tamworth course, the par of which is 70, returned a card of 62. The previous best score was Walter Hagen’s 66. The course was heavy after rain, but Sarazen’s highest score for any hole was four. An Adelaide message states that Bufas Stewart played an amazing round of 63 at the Koyonga course. The par is 72.
