ARRANGEMENTS AT HAWERA. RECEPTION IN PARK DESIRED. Efforts to have the time spent by the Duke of Gloucester at Hawera on Thursday, January 3, extended by 10 minutes to half an hour are to be made by the Hawera Borough Council following a resolution last night. The Mayor, Mr. J. E. Campbell and Crsi W. G. Strange and L. H. Clapham were appointed a special committee with power to co-opt to make arrangements for the Royal reception. In a long discussion the question of a suitable gathering was referred to and it was considered that by speeding up the train from New Plymouth extra time could be afforded Hawera. In that case a reception at King Edward Park would be possible. So far as school children were concerned, the council decided to write to the South Taranaki School Committees’ Association for support. It is likely that some special sports attraction to. keep people at Hawera for the day will be arranged. If possible a Maori display will be given. A reception at the railway station will be avoided at all costs.
The committee was given authority to spend up to £5O on the reception. A subsidy of £l5 will be granted by the Government.
