Messrs. R. Darroch, Wellington, and H. E. Carey, New Plymouth, were visitors at the New Plymouth Rotary Club’s lunch yesterday. Mr. F. H. Locke, chairman of the central executive (London) of the Royal Life-Saving Society, who is visiting New Zealand, will arrive at New Plymouth to-morrow evening, and will meet the executive of the Taranaki Centre. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, who has been in ill-health for some time, entered a private hospital at Dannevirke yesterday for treatment, states a Press Association message from Wellington. Mr. William Thomas, M.A., rector of Timaru Boys’ High School for the past 22 years, yesterday announced to the board of governors his retirement from February 28, 1935, states a Press Association message. The Rev. R. B. Tinsley, Auckland, has been extended a call to occupy the charge of the Mornington Methodist Church. The present minister is the Rev. E. T. Cox, Mayor of Dunedin, who will complete three years’ ministry at the end of March, At the quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church of New Plymouth ,a motion of sympathy was passed with Mr. ,R. Pepperell in his continued illness and hope was expressed for his speedy recovery. Lieut.-Commander W. H. Watt, officer in charge of the civil aerodrome at Karachi airport, India, is to be appointed to the permanent post of chief aerodrome officer in the Civil Aviation Directorate of India. Lieut.-Commander Watt was at one time in the service of Union Steam Ship Company on the New Zealand coast.

The Goldberg Advertising Pty. Ltd., Melbourne, which was registered with head office in Victoria a few . months ago, confirms the following appointments on the board of directors: Governing director, Mr. Frank Goldberg; managing director, Mr. E. L. Jarvis; directors, Mrs. F. Goldberg, Messrs. P. Clark, B. Lazarus and J. Roxburgh. Mr. E. Parker has also been confirmed in his position as secretary to the company. The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday of the Rev. John Kilpatrick, aged 72, reports the Press Association. Mr. Kilpatrick was licensed by the Free Church Presbytery of Glasgow in 1893 and arrived at Dunedin towards the end of same year. Shortly afterwards he took charge of the parish of Warepa and Kaihiku, and in 1893 he accepted a call to Green Island, remaining there until his retirement in 1927. Mr. Kilpatrick was clerk of the Dunedin Presbytery for more than ten years, and in 1925 was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly.

Dr. W. S. Fogg, Dunedin, has been appointed resident physician ,at the Hawera hospital in succession to Dr. E. S. Fossey, and as the appointee is prevented from taking up his work immediately, Dr. K. I. Nissen, who arrives at Hawera tonight, will act as locum for some weeks. Dr. Fogg graduated in 1925 from the Otago Medical School, and since that time has divided his duties between work at the Dunedin hospital and lecturing at the medical school. “I know of no one in New Zealand more suited to the post,” said the medical superintendent, Dr. J. Cairney, when the appointment was made by the board yesterday.

Dr H. F. McNickle and Mrs. McNickle left England by the Moldavia, expecting to connect with the Marama at Sydney and arrive at Auckland on October 23. Dr. McNickle is coming to New Zealand to take up his appointment as resident surgical officer at the Wellington hospital. Since July, 1932, he has been doing post-graduate work in England. He passed M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., in April, 1933, and F.R.C.S. (Eng.) in the following month. His last appointment in England was surgical officer at the Harlow Wood orthopaedic hospital. Mrs. McNickle was formerly Miss Kathleen Bews, Auckland. Their marriage took place at St. Barnabas,’ Dulwich, in July, 1933.
