TENNIS CLUB MEETS

ACTIVTIES AT LOWER MANGOREI. SATISFACTORY SEASON HELD. The first annual meeting of the Mangorei Tennis Club ’ was held on Wednesday, 18 members being present. The chairman , was Mr. G. Bennett. The report and balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory season had been held, from a financial as well as a social standpoint. Several matches were played with teams representing the Highlands club and Tingeys club. The greater part of the expense of laying the court had been eliminated, the present liability being £lO 18s. There was a credit balance of £9 Ils 2d. The sum of £2 was donated to the school picnic funds. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr. C. H. Burgess in his illness. The thanks of the club were due to Mr. and Mrs. Burgess, patrons of the club, for their donation.

The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. and Mrs. Burgess; president, Mr. G. Bennett; vice-presidents, Mr. M. Goldsbury and Mr. P. Morris; secretary and treasurer, Miss Purcell; committee, Messrs. D. Hargreaves, F. Morris, RFake, M. Martin, Mrs. Bethel and Misses I. Hawkins and I. Morris.

The membership numbers 38, 10 new members being accepted. A fair number attended a dance held at the Lower Mangorei school by the committee. The music was played by the Maori string band and extras by Mr. A. Smith. A Monte Carlo dance wa« won by Miss Deighton and partner.

Mrs. Mitchell was hostess at an evening on Friday. Dancing, games, competitions and songs filled ;the evening. A spot waltz was won by; Miss Brown and Mr. Grieves.

Mrs. RowSe, junr., was hostess recently at a party in honour of the com-ing-of-age of Mr. R. Rowse, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Rowse, Carrington Road. The party was attended by about 30 friends. Games, dancing and competitions were held. Competitions were won by Messrs. N. Arthur. V. Hodges, D. Nichol, Misses Hodges arid F. Jordan. A novelty dance was won by Miss I. Lovegrove and J, Hodges.-
