DOGS AND DRIVERS

INCREASES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. REGISTRATION FEES IN BOROUGH. New Plymouth has more dogs, more motor drivers and more capital in new buildings than it did last year. The chief borough inspector, Mr. R. Day, can produce statistics in proof. “Some of the figures to date are rather interesting,” stated Mr. Day in a report to the Borough Council last night. “A total of 526 dogs has been registered to the end of September, against 492 for the whole of last year, end it is known that there are a few mare to be registered before the end of the year. A total of 2355 motor-drivers paid for licenses to the end of September, compared with 2279 for the corresponding period last year. Heavy traffic fees collected for the same period amount to £l2Ol 4s 6d, against £9B7' 13s 6d last year. The value of building permits issued for September amounts to £13,494, whereas the total for the same month in 1933 was £3855; the increased activity in this direction is no doubt due to the Government building subsidies.” Fees for permits collected during the month were £476 14s.
