NEW CRICKET SEASON
COUNTRY GAMES START TARURUTANGFS EARLY LEAD. TIKORANGI AND URENUI DRAW. The 1934-35 cricket season was opened on Saturday by the commencement of the North Taranaki Country Cricket Association's senior competition. Two matches were played. Tarurutangi (last years champion), playing on its own ground, secured a comfortable win over Brixton, scoring 146 for eight wickets to its opponent's 68. Spence Giddy with 44 retired was top scorer. Tire Taranaki representative Norm. Giddy has struck form early, being responsible for a splendid double performance with 27 runs retired and six wickets for 7 runs. At Urenui Tikorangi with a score of 146 for eight wickets declared drew with the home team, which made 88 for six wickets. O. Foreman (Tikorangi) with 34 was top scorer, while R. Wilson (Urenui) was responsible for a splendid double performance with 25 not out and five wickets for 39 runs.
