Mr. J. Gibbs, Mayor of Inglewood, left yesterday morning on a visit to Wellington. Mr. J. M. A. Hott, Wellington, governing director of J. Hott, Ltd., and Governor of Rotary for New Zealand, left for Australia by the Marama on Thursday. Sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Mackay, New Plymouth, in the death of their daughter, was expressed at the Tui Cribbage League on Thursday night Mr William Favill Tuke, deputy-chair-man, has been elected chairman of Barclay’s Bank in succession to the late Mr. F. C. Goodenough, and Mr. Edwin Fisher has been elected deputy-chairman, says a British 'Official Wireless message. Captain K. L. Stewart, who has been attached to the Ceylon Staff Corps, arrived at Auckland with Mrs. Stewart and their child by the Wanganella, and has gone'to Wellington. Captain Stewart has been appointed to the New Zealand Staff Corps. Mr. A. Bain, senior inspector in the Taranaki education district, has been appointed to a similar position in the Auckland district Mr. Bain’s place will be taken by Mr. C. N. Haslam, senior inspector' in the Southland district. Mr, Bain, who has been at New Plymouth nearly two years, will take up his appointment about January. The Rev. J, Lawson Robinson, of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Christy church, was nominated as the Assembly Moderator for 1935-36 at a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery. In moving the motion, the Rev. G. K. Aitken said that since the union of churches 34 years ago Christchurch had only had one Moderator of the Assembly. Sir Arnold Theiler, the eminent South African veterinary scientist, arrived at Christchurch on Tuesday from Hanmer. Sir Arnold, who is accompanied by Lady Theiler, visited Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, on Wednesday, and left for Mount Cook on Thursday. He expects to return to Christchurch to-mor-row and leave for the north on Monday evening.
