WENDY’S DRESSMAKERS
MAKING DAINTY UNDERCLOTHES. We have had several requests lately from almost grown-up Wendy girls for instructions for snaking pretty underclothes,' so for the next two or three weeks we will try to help them. First, ( want to remind you to cut out and keep our dressmaking lessons every, week. Even if you don’t want to make any special garment one week, you should keep the instructions ready for when you do! The sketch, shows a pretty little camisole and knickers, which are quite easily fashioned. You will need one-and-a-half yards of pastel-coloured artificial silk, a iiuiiiiiitniiniiniiiniiiiiiiiiinHiiiitiiiiitinininiiiiinniiiiHi
yard of inch-wide ribbon for the shoulder-straps, enough half-inch-wide elastic to go twice round your waist, and a penny, skein of stranded embroidery cotton in the same shade of the material. The Camisole., For the camisole, cut a strip of material eight inches deep and long enough to go comfortably round you. Sew fea two short sides together with a French seam, then make a narrow casing round 1 one edge to take the elastic. Turn in and tack a very narrow hem along the top edge, then thread your needle with two Strands of embroidery cotton, and work a fancy hem. Sew two ordinary stitches, then take the needle right over the top of the hem with a stitch, pull tightly, and bring it back to the left of this oversewn stitch. Sew two more hem-ming-stitches, then take the needle up over the top of the hem with another stitch,, pull tightly, and continue thus all along. This gives a pretty little scalloped top to the camisole. Cut the ribbon in halves and sew it to the top of the comisole as shoulder-straps. The Knickers. The diagrams give the shape and measurements of the four pieces that make up the knickers. Sew them together with French seams down the back and front, then poin the side-seams, and the little inner leg seams. Tack narrow hems round the leg-openings, and “scallop-hem” them just as you did the camisole. Make a narrow casing round the top by sewing on a strip of material cut on the cross, and thread elastic through this to fit your waist. I ■ , Wendy’s Dressmaker.
