DRAMA LEAGUE FESTIVAL.
PRODUCTIONS BY INSTITUTES. An imposing list of plays will be presented by South Taranaki women’s institutes during a Drama League festival under their auspices at St. Joseph’s Hall, Hawera, on October 23 and 24. Ten plays will be presented by eight institutes and Mr. C. Harrison, Hawera, and Mrs. M. Uniacke, Stratford, will be the judges. The institutes and the plays to be presented are as follow: Turi Town, “The Signal,” “and “Snowed Up With the Duchess”; Patea, “Such is Fame” and “The Cat’s Claws”; Okaiawa, “The Odd Streak”; Turuturu, “Grant Owners in Spain”; Normanby, “Aunt Lizzie’s Friend”; Kakaramea, “Waiting For the Train”; Whareroa, “The Impostor”; and Te Roti, “What Happened to Edward.” A high standard of stagecraft has been achieved by institute members in previous productions in the district and the festival should play an important part in encouraging dramatic endeavour in South Taranaki • ...
