TE WERA DISTRICT

FLOOD CAUSES INCONVENIENCE. ROAD COVERED FIVE FEET DEEP. The weather in the Te Wera, Huiakama and Strathmore districts has improved during the last few days and the pastures, which have been very bare of feed, should come away. The recent heavy flood inconvenienced the Favier Road settlers. They had to take their cream through private properties as the water was in places four to five feet deep over the road. The metalling of the Favier and Akama Roads will be started shortly, it is understood.

The docking of lambs has been completed with the exception of some late ones, and a number of very high percentages is reported. The tennis club at Huiakama, with Mr. Mayo as club captain and Mr. A. Frank, as honorary secretary, is making preparations for the opening day to take place -oon. A pig buyer has lately been very busy canvassing the district and has sent away several heavy consignments. Mr. J. Reith recently completed the construction of a shearing shed in preparation for the coming season. Mr. David Yandle, “Ponga-Nui,” one of Taranaki’s leading Jersey breeders, recently bought in the Waikato a wellbred bull of good butter-fat ancestry. The Huiakama school grounds are showing considerable improvement and the headmaster, Mr. Talbot, who is very keen on forestry, has some good plantations well on the way. Mr. and Mrs. Hildred and family paid a flying visit to their property at the week-end.
