“ENTERING BY SIDE DOOR”

GERMAN FIRMS IN BRITAIN. AIM TO SUPPLY DOMINIONS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London,* Sept. 16. The Berlin correspondent of the Sunday Times says that Berlin textile firms, largely aiming at Dominion markets, are opening nine mills in London and nine in Manchester, the latter in readiness for the winter trade in women’s coats and costumes. Fifty per cent, of the material must be German. “Admittedly the main purpose is to market German textiles in the British Empire by the side door because readymade English clothing is not subject to the prohibitive duties in the Dominions which keep out German goods,” says the Sunday Times.
