Y.W.- Y.M.C.A. AT OAKURA
SUCCESSFUL CONCERT STAGED.
Last Thursday the Oakura hall was filled with parents and friends for the concert given by the Sunday school girls in aid of the Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. Much credit is due to Mrs. Beal, who spent many weeks in training the girls for the plays, “The Wedding of Jenny Wren,” and “Dame Durdant’s School” and to Mrs. Corbett, who played the accompaniments. The stage was decorated with ponga fronds and Arum lilies. Mr. Ledgerwood thanked Mrs. Beal and helpers for the entertainment. Mrs. Alexander, president of the New Plymouth Y.W.Y.M.C.A. and Mrs. Blundell, vice-presi-dent, were present. Mrs. Alexander congratulated the girls on the way they carried out their parts. The Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. will benefit by £5. After supper, served by a ladies’ committee, Mesdames Beal, Bell, Cochran, Harris and Morris, a dance was held. Music was supplied by Williams’ orchestra. Messrs. Ledgerwood and Lucas were masters of ceremonies.
The Saturday Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. evening was well attended, the boys being keen on wrestling. A party of New Plymouth Y.M.C.A. wrestlers will shortly visit Oakura.
