SCHOOL WATER SUPPLY

EXPEDITION OF METER SERVICE. DECISION OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. The question of charges to school com; mittees for water supply was again before the New Plymouth Borough Council last night when, on the recommendation of the works ■ committee, i it was decided that in order to expedite the installation of meters committees that before November 1 notified the council that they desired to have meters installed and to be charged at the meter rate, should be charged for the current year at the same rate as they were charged for the year ended March 31, 1934, the difference between such charges and the charges made for the year ending March 31, 1935, to be written off, and that the charge by meter take effect as from April 1, 1935. The decision followed representations to the works committee by the Fitzroy School Committee 1 and referred to a previous resolution of the council granting primary school committees the option of paying the water charges either at the rates s6t out in the accounts for the current year recently rendered or by meter at 6d per 1000 gallons. If all the schools mentioned, gave the necessary notice before November 1 the works committee reported that the effect of its latest decision would be as follows: West End, Central Infants, and Central school, £l4 5s instead of £2B 3s; Vogeltown, £3 5s instead of £6; Moturoa, £4 10s instead of £5; Westown, £4 15s instead of £8; Fitzroy, £7 10s instead of £l3 10s; Avenue Road, £4 ss, no alteration; Heidleberg Convent, £9 ss, no alteration.
