CLOTHING PROBLEM
SHORTAGE OF MATERIALS.
CITIZENS TO ECONOMISE.
London, Sept. 6.
Owing to the shortage of clothing materials, the German Fashion Institute is ■holding fashion parades to impress upon the public the necessity for economy in dress.
Giving this information, the Berlin correspondent of the Daily Mail says the exhibitions are intended to prove that clothing made from substitutes, such as vistra, woolstra and silkestra, are not inferior to imported iotton, wool and silk goods. Men’s overcoats must now be cut shorter, and there will be no more double-breasted suits Or double-cuffed shirts.
Simplicity will be the keynote of women’s dresses. Long trains, puff sleeves, frills, flounces and similar adornments, entailing unnecessary waste of material, will be banned.
