LODGINGS AT CENTENARY
CHARGES NOT UNDULY HIGH.
DENIAL OF AUCKLAND REPORT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington .Last Night. A recent Auckland newspaper report stated that a resident of that city had written to the centenary accomodation bureau at Melbourne inquiring terms for board and lodging during the centenary celebrations and had received a reply that accommodation was at a premium at about £3 3s per day. The Australian Trade Commissioner, Mr. R. H. Nesbitt, has. received the following reply to a cable to Melbourne on the question: Accommodation is still available. Applications should be made to the officer in charge of the bureau, 435 Collins Street. There is no foundation whatsoever in the suggestion that a daily rate is £3 3s. For the peak period, that is during, the visit of the Duke .of Gloucester, the highest rate is 35s per day per person.
