COMPETITION HEALTHIER

SYDNEY WOOL SALES REVIEWED.

LONDON SALES OPEN ON TUESDAY.

By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright.

Sydney, Sept. 14.

The weekly wool letter in the Sydney Morning Herald says: “The prices for the great bulk of the wool submitted this week in Sydney showed no quotable alteration, but competition was healthier, Yorkshire and Japan buying freely, with Continental competition more widely distributed. The absence of any marked variation in prices is encouraging, but offerings have been small, owing to withdrawals. “The wisdom or otherwise of heavy withdrawals remains to be proved, as no development is hi sight in Europe to justify the assumption that prices are likely to appreciate, while conditions for selling wool very freely to the Continent are far less favourable than last year. Next week will provide the test, as the London sales open on Tuesday.” The Yorkshire Observer anticipates higher values at Tuesday’s wool sales, says a London cable. The Observer states: “Some of the leading topmakers of Bradford expect about 10 per cent, rise above July closing rates. Much depends on the Continental competition. It is anticipated that France will be fairly active, and even Italy, despite restrictions, may do more than generally expected.”
