AUSTRALIAN TOURISTS WIN
HOCKEY AGAINST HAWKES BAY.
FAST AND INTERESTING MATCH.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, Last Night,
Combination and fitness, especially the former, were responsible for the Australian hockey representatives’ defeat of Hawkes Bay at Hastings to-day by four goals to one in the presence of over 1000 people. The game was particularly fast throughout and was always interesting. The first spell was unexpectedly very even, Hawkes Bay more than holding its own and showing surprising defensive ability. The spell was without score. After the change-over Hawkes Bay attacked strongly for the first 15 minutes and opened the scoring, Fitzmaurice finding the net. From this stage the Australians settled down tp make effective use of their superior' combination and team play. The score was quickly evened by Stenning but it was some time before the home defence was again pierced. However, about 10 minutes before time the visitors scored three goals in quick time from the sticks of Penman (two) and Milner, Hawkes Bay tiring badly and feeling the effects of the early fast play.
