REACTION TO IMPROVEMENT
HIGH PRICES FOR JERSEY CATTLE. EXCELLENT CLAUDELANDS SALE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Last Night. Despite the low quotations for butterfat and the uncertain position of the dairy industry dairy farmers from various parts of New Zealand reacted to the undoubted improvement in conditions at the 12th annual national Jersey show sale at Claudelands, when the best sale for several years was recorded. There was a large and representative bench of buyers on both days of the sale. During the two days over 120 pedigree bulls were sold realising an average price of 32 guineas, the top price being 155 guineas for a six-year-old bull Idaha’s Sunrise, on account of Mr. R. A. Lewis, Pukekohe, which was bought by Mr. T. W. Narby, Helensville. This bull was the grand champion of the show held before tire sale.
An excellent price was secured, for the champion yearling of the sale, Greencroft Achievement, on account of Mr. Bones, Kaipaki, which was purchased for 137 guineas by Mr. H. Rusk, North Auckland. A yearling on account of Mr. P. J. Petersen, Brixton, Taranaki, was bought by Mr. W. T. Dale, Waihou, for 101 guineas.
