OAKURA EUCHRE PARTY
BIG ATTENDANCE AT Y.W.-Y.M.C.A.
Owing to the boisterous weatlier and sickness there was riot the usual attendance at the fortnightly euchre pai*ty held in the Oakura hall on Tuesday. Prizes were won by: Ladies, Miss R. Goodwin 1, Mrs. G. Fisher and Mrs. H. Julian 2; men, Mr. H. Julian 1, Mr. R. Price 2. Mrs. H. Corbett supplied the music, and Mr. F. Telford was master of ceremonies.
There was an unusually large attendance at the Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. evening in the Oakura hall on Saturday. After community singing led by Mr. Ledgerwood, two local young men gave a demonstration of the different holds used in wrestling. A feature of the evening was a piano solo by Master Hamish Shearer, aged six years, who showed wonderful talent for his age. He also played a duet with his mother. The tennis courts are now finished, except the summer house which it is hoped to finish by next week. The cold, dry winds following on a week's fine weather are having a very detrimental effect on the pastures, and 24 hours waiin rain would be very welcome.
Measles are fairly prevalent in the district, and are affecting the school attendance.
Mrs. Telford is an inmate of a private hospital. Miss Sylvia Price has returned after spending a few days at Hawera.
