ROADS IN OHURA COUNTY

MAINTENANCE WORK CARRIED OUT

ENGINEER’S REPORT TO COUNCIL.

The following report was presented to the meeting of tire Ohura County Council on Wednesday by the engineer, Mr. H. Seerup;— . , „ Main highways:—Stratford-Taumaru-nui: Slips' have been cleared on the Paparata Saddle; light grading carried out on the Ohura Road; metalling repairs attended to on the Tokirima Road, Nicol’s cutting cleaned out and a retaining wall constructed to hold a slip back on Urick’s Bluff. Pio Pio-Tatu: Work has been confined mostly to the 1 Waitewhena Road where . grading, and widening has been carried, out as far as Porter’s; general maintenance work was attended to over the whole length of the metalled portion, and three concrete pipe culverts were placed in position; watertables have been attended to and light grading carried out on the Ohura Road. Okahukura-Ohura: Scrub has been cut on the Okahukura Hill, metal delivered for repair work near Brookes’, drains cleaned out and general maintenance work attended to between the 11 mile and Matiere, and a slip cleared and metalling repairs carried between Toi Toi and Matiere. Tokirima Road: Thirty yards of metal has been delivered for maintenance purposes, and a number of slips between Old’s and Opatu have been cleared. Matiere riding: Watertables have been opened and slips cleared on the Manga-papa-Akaterewa and Tapuiwahine Roads, a drain cleaned out on the Paraketu Road, flood-damage repair work attended to on the Koromiko, Opotiki and Ararimu East Roads, slip? cleared, pumicing carried out and temporary repairs affected to a bridge on the OngarueMatiere Road. Special attention has been given to the hew metal on the Mangapapa East apd West Roads. Slips are being cleared on the Ohura-Mokau Road, ahd the grgde lowered arid metalled at a point beyond where the road has subsided near MacDonald’s on the Waikaka Road. ' Ohura riding: The clearing of slips and grading have been attended to on the Heao Road. A washout and temporary repairs to a culvert on the Waro Road have been attended to. A drain has been cleaned out, and a 9-inch pipe culvert placed in position at the Ohura-Kopuha Road Junction, scrub has been cut and watertableg opened on the Wairoa Road, and a small washout filled and metalling repairs, carried out on the lower portion of the Tongaporutu Road. Plans had been completed for the Hapurua Stream bridge on the Pio PioTatu main highway, and the Tokirima

Stream bridge on the Tokirima highway, said the engineer. Borings at the Tokirima Stream culvert site on the. Stp?t-ford-Taumarunui highway had revealed that the foundations were quite’ unsuitable for a culvert, and plans would be prepared for a small bridge.
