FIRST ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE.
PROTECTING RIGHTS OF COUNCILS.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Wellington, Sept. 12.
Sixty delegates from all parts of the Dominion met at the first conference of the New Zealand Municipal Electric Power Supply Association to-day. The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, who presided, said the association was not formed in any spirit of antagonism to the existing association, which comprised both power boards and municipalities. The association was merely formed to protect the rights and privileges of municipal councils. He added that of the 39 municipalities supplying power 37 had joined. Rules and a constitution were adopted and the following officers were elected: President, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Miller, Mayor of Invercargill, and O. Morse, Mayor of Napier. The executive council is to consist of delegates from Hamilton, Lyttelton, Stratford, Wairoa, Christchurch and Palmerston North. The appointment of a secretary and an advisory engineer was left to the executive.
