EVANGELISTIC MISSION
' SALVATION ARMY MEETING. In preparation for the . forthcoming mission the weekly united prayer meeting was held last evening in the Salvation Army hall, New Plymouth. A good representation from all the churches was present. Capt. Chandler presided and the Rev. Featherston (minister of St. Aubyn Methodist Church) gave the address.
Mr. Featherston based his remarks on the greatest prayer scene in the Old Testament history. The scene was Jacob wrestling with God and how the effect on himself was so marked and real. At first his prayer was for his own safety from the wrath of his brother, Esau, and ended with his conversion to God’s will. He prayed until he lost sight of his own needs to do the will of God entirely. So, said the speaker, must Christians work and pray, forgetting themselves entirely. There were three influences working—God, self and the devil. When we pulled the way God pulled then would come blessing and success. Our lives must correspond to our prayers. The next meeting will be in Whitely Church on Wednesday.
