MISS GAISFORD BEATEN
MRS. ROBINSON WINS GOLF TITLE.
BRILLIANT PLAY IN AFTERNOON. ‘
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 9.15 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 11. Mrs. V. Robinson (New South Wales) beat Miss Bessie Gainsfcrd (New Zealand) 4 and 3 in the final of the Australian women’s golf championship over 36 holes to-day. The match was all square at the end of the morning round. The weather was ideal, and there were about 1500 spectators. Mrs. Robinson played superbly in the afternoon and at the 31st had a commanding lead of four up. Miss Gaisford played faultlessly prior to going to lunch but during the afternoon she had the misfortune on a number of occasions either to land in rain-filled bunkers or on the lip of holes. Mrs. Robinson’s play being of such a high standard Miss Gaisford could not afford to make slips. The New Zealander consistently outdrove her opponent. Both played their seconds and approaches beautifully. Mrs. Robinson, however, had a frequent putting advantage.
