GAME WITH WAIKATO TO-DAY
TARANAKI TEAM AT HAMILTON.
CONSIDERABLE INTEREST SHOWN.
(By Wire—Special Reporter.) Hamilton, Last Night.
Fifteen members of the Taranaki team in charge of Mr. J. Rowe arrived at Frankton by the express train from New Plymouth this morning and were joined there by Fowler and Burke, Dowdle and Hunt, three men who travelled with the Taranaki colts team on its northern tour and were instructed to join the representative team. The team had useful practice in the afternoon, all the players going well. The team for the opening match against Waikato on Wednesday will comprise:— Full-back: Collins. Three-quarters: Kinsella, Townsend, Sullivan.
Five-eighths: Sangster, Brown. Half: Gudgeon. Back row: Fastier. Middle row: Clarke, Murphy, Blakeney, Young. Front row: Bocock, Fowler, Armstrong. Reserves: Preston, Burke, Hunt, Dowdle. The weather at present does not look promising. t Considerable interest is being taken in the match in the Waikato, it being regarded as a try-out for the shield match ,to take place in a fortnight. The Waikato forwards are fast and solid, while the ifiside backs, Russell (half), Carroll and Solomon are considered to be brilliant. Waikato has already defeated King Country, Thames Valley and North Auckland, its only defeat being at the hands of Auckland.
