To-day’s operations on the Stock Exchange were the heaviest recorded for some weeks. All sections except banks were very active, and the gilt-edged market was stronger than usual with retail trading in shares firmer. WOOL SALES AT SYDNEY. Rec. 9.45 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 11. At the wool sales 7190 bales were offered and 6019 sold. Also 353 bales were sold privately. was spirited competition from Japan, Yorkshire and the Continent. Prices mantained late levels. Greasy Merino fleece sold to 16d per lb for 11 bales. Average price of the new clip wools last week was £l3 4s lOd a bale or 10.05 d per* lb.
